Campus Services -Trial PC unswitch campaign

In May 2000 unswitch launched a trial computer switch off campaign in preparation for the campus-wide launch of the same campaign. Campus Services, which is part of Facilities, was included in this trial. In 1999 43% of monitors were left on at night in this department, which was reduced to only 12% following the trial - a saving of 2730kg of greenhouse gas emissions per year. Well done to the staff of Campus Services!

Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences -Saving Energy in Mac Labs

IT support staff in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences have configured all computers (Apple Imacs and G3s) in their five computer labs located in Morven Brown and Mathews to shut down after 10:30pm. Fifteen minutes before the scheduled shut-down the user is given the option to continue using the computer. In the morning users must start up the computer which takes approximately 1 minute. All computers also have Energy Star (energy conservation software) installed which ensures that computers use minimum energy when not in use during the day.
