Office Energy Usage - Facts and Figures

The energy consumption of equipment is determined by the power drawn by the electrical equipment (measured in watts) and the time the equipment is on (measured in hours). For example, a 100 W lamp switched on for 10 hours will consume 1,000 watt-hours of energy (or 1 kWh).

The table below shows the average power consumption of common electrical equipment used in offices. This data was obtained from a comprehensive energy audit of all equipment in the UNSW Library Building conducted by unswitch in 2000.

unswitch conducted energy audits of UNSW offices to determine how frequently equipment is left on at night. To find out the performance of your department click here.
