unswitch (a UNSW energy conservation program) aims to monitor and reduce UNSW energy consumption via research projects, energy auditing and education campaigns to change user behaviour. unswitch was established by the Energy Management Unit, Engineering Services and is being implemented by the Green Office Program. unswitch plays an important role in helping UNSW fulfil its Greenhouse Challenge obligations.

The first project to be undertaken by unswitch was a comprehensive energy audit of the Kensington campus offices, printing rooms and kitchens in August 1999. Energy audits are now conducted on a regular basis. Education campaigns are launched in response to energy performance as indicated by our audit results, thus creating a cycle of continuous improvement in energy management.
