| What can I expect from this
site in the future? |
| |
Currently, the Energy@UNSW web site
primarily provides information about energy and energy
management at UNSW, various forms and policies which may be
of use, and links to other helpful sites. Throughout this
year, the Energy@UNSW web site will be expanded and
developed into a functional and user-interactive site
allowing users to login and gain information on
electricity, gas and water consumption patterns and
expenditure for their particular organisation.
Functionality will also be developed to allow
Facilities staff and contractors to search for information
on utility meters around the campus.
Please revisit the site regularly as it will be
frequently updated. |

| Why does this web site not
work properly on my computer? |
| |
The Energy@UNSW web site has been
designed to work on as many platforms and with as many
Internet browsers as possible. However, due to the dynamic
nature of web-based technologies, some components of the
site may appear slightly different or not function at all,
on some Internet browsers.
Most problems can usually be solved by simply
upgrading your browser to the latest version available. To
upgrade your browser, please select your browser type from the
Downloads Page
.
If problems still occur, please feel free to fill out
the
Feedback Form
specifying the problem, or contact the

| Can I settle energy and water
accounts using online payment transactions? |
| |
At this point in time, an online
payment transaction service is not planned for development,
so please continue to settle your accounts in the normal
way. For more details, please see the information at the
bottom of your energy invoices.
Functionality is being developed into the web site to
allow customers to login and check their consumption
history and current account balances, which will aid
customers to manage and hopefully reduce their own energy
and water consumption. Management will also be able to
generate and distribute to customers, accurate billing
reports, which will detail energy and water charges.
Through our dedication to quality customer service, we
are always looking for new ways in which we can improve the
services we provide to you, so please feel free to suggest
any improvements in our
Feedback Form

| What’s in it for me? (Why
should I save energy?) |
| |
Firstly, Energy Management is NOT
about "Freezing in the dark". On the contrary, it IS about
making sure that the lighting, comfort conditioning, and
energy processes meet your needs, without unnecessary waste.
So, it's a win - win - win strategy. The university
wins through lower costs, enabling you to win through
better use of resources, and the environment wins through
fewer Greenhouse Gas emissions. |

|
| How can I save energy? |
| |
There are four simple things that
can be done everyday to conserve energy in the workplace:
- Turn off your office equipment before you go home
(including computer, monitors, printer, photocopier and scanners).
- Switch off your monitor when not in use for more than
30 minutes during the day.
- Turn off the lights whenever you leave your office (and
only turn them on when you need them!).
- Only use heating and cooling when necessary. (Wear
appropriate clothing.)

much energy does your office consume?

|
| How is the environment
affected by energy consumption? |
| |
Firstly, precious energy and water
resources are wasted on UNSW campuses each day. It is
estimated that 30,000 Giga Joules of Energy and 65,000
litres of water are wasted each year on Kensington Campus
alone.
Secondly, due to UNSW electricity consumption (which has
increased more than 6% in each of the last two years), more
than 60,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) is
released into the atmosphere each year.

| What is unswitch? |
| |
unswitch is an energy
conservation program, principally aimed at staff and
students. It is funded and managed by the Energy Management
Unit. Most unswitch activities are coordinated by
the Green Office Program which utilises paid students for
scoping audits, research and special projects.
